Remove "Start back up" option in file explorer

Hello,

In the latest release of Windows Insider Home Preview (I have an option everywhere I go in file explorer to "Start Back Up", clicking on it leads me to the onedrive dialogue to back up folders. This is incredibly annoying and I cannot find out how to disable it, even though all my backup features are off.

How can I disable this?

I was able to get rid of the button like this:

  1. Open RegEdit
  2. Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StorageProvider\OneDrive
  3. Remove or rename the key StorageProviderKnownFolderSyncInfoSourceFactory
  4. Restart Windows Explorer

    In the meantime, they broke the System Image Backup which no longer works with latest Canary Build 27686.

    I want my back up done locally and they just broke the only good utility that is built in in Windows. 😝😝🤬🤬

    It was working fine before updating to Build 27686.1000.

    Why? Because marketing, selling cloud storage. They hope you use this feature, fill up storage, then have to buy more.

    But rather than just offer it to us with advertising, they're opportunistically leveraging the marketing into their operating systems and are making it difficult or impossible to simply say "no thanks".

    It probably works for some, but I'm betting that it royally peeves a much larger segment of Windows users.

    So what happens is that threads like this eventually die down because we do what we always do with dysfunctional Windows properties: we become complacent and live with it.

    However, they should know that this wears loyalty very thin. They should hope a worthy contender doesn't one day appear to threaten their Windows base. All empires crumble.

    I really don't appreciate Microsoft willingly misleading and lying to users about backing up. Syncing to an extremely limited cloud storage is not backing up. I don't find it cute the Microsoft thinks it's appropriate to advertise that feature at me there, especially when I already have OneDrive. What's the proper solution? Ditching OneDrive entirely? Why did Microsoft refuse to provide a simple toggle to turn off this dishonest advertisement? Why am I having to regularly hack my registry to fix the low IQ choice Microsoft made?
