Build 21277 is out as an Optional Update

I agree.  It's actually hard to grasp the hype they have given the so-called "Smart copy" thing.  When it's really just the K/B 'shortcut' for Web capture.  Seems like just another instance of more than 1 way to do something in Windows... and one uses what feels most appealing to them or 'right' in that moment.

Suppose could use Ctrl+Shift+S if you were someone who did not want the Web capture icon on their toolbar.

Same as Win+Shift+S (also) fires Snip & Sketch.

Rather than using (Ctrl+Shift+S) it is easier to use the icon (Web capture) in the MS Edge tool bar  😊

I'll suggest the gain over the past is in regard to other than, actual, screen shots specifically or exclusively. Yes, they will auto save to the Screen shots folder. But, where things like Snip & Sketch, Web capture & "Smart copy" change the scenario is being able to select a particular bit from wherever... and offering 4 Modes for this: Rectangle, Free-form, Window & Full screen.  Caveat is these 'tools' take the functionality & abilities much, much further than Screen shots.

Yes, the 'new' bit just streamlines/simplifies part of the process, so in a way not a big deal, but that's because S&S, Web capture and Smart copy already exist.  So just a nice addition to what we already had or have.

And I may be repeating myself (oops, sorry), but fits the moment... This so-called (new) "Smart copy"... this (Ctrl+Shift+S) can be used on any web page, even right here. It turns the cursor into a + sign ready to grab whatever image & or text you want, and then can do what you please with the piece you took; including drop it in a folder 😉😊.  Handy, slick & simple easy. 👍👍

Maybe, Microsoft, you could Paste the file with the Screenshot automatically.

Microsoft couldn't do that because they don't 

know where you want to paste it.

You could want it in an e mail, the forum,, etc.

Only the last two Insider installs have had this occur on the login screen, but the settings are set the same as my public release with regedit and gpedit  so not sure where to look now that governs that effect.

All my installs are W10 Pro.

My installs are also all Win10 Pro x64.

Hyper-V is the variable causing the different behavior with Insider Build 21277.1000 (or 20279.1) which seems to ignore the policy settings and always shows clear logon background.

Time for MS developers to explain why ? 😉

Yet if I install a 20H2 Build 19042.685 as a VM guest with Hyper-V the behavior follows the settings and the logon background is blurred by default as it is normally on a real machine.

So the Hyper-V seems to affect only the behavior of the Insider Development builds like, in this case,  21227.1000 or 20279.1, while 19042.685 in an Hyper-V VM guest behaves correctly according to the policy settings.   See the 2 pictures below:
