General Random Write disk speed degradation in Windows 11.

Here is the result with Windows Build 22000.469 compared with older test with Windows 10 Build 19043.1165 showed previously in this thread.

This is a Dell XPS8930.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz

Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.8 GB usable)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

It looks that things are getting much better, but still not as good as with Windows 10

with Random 4K Q32T16.

Definitely better than previous tests with Windows 11.

I also have a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2 TB as my second drive (The 980 Pro 2TB is my primary drive).

There I also noticed an improvement, even tough it is not my OS drive.

Random Write IPOS went from 286K to 331K.

I am running all this on a Ryzen 9 5900X on a Asus Strixx B550-E motherboard.

Thanks - good data. Goes to show much better performance on an SSD with its not the OS drive (for random read/write). Sequential about the same.

Don't have Windows 10 results for the drive in this configuration.

But running this drive under Windows 11 as secondary drive (so not running Windows 11 on this drive) than my IOPS were 886.474 IOPS.

So I am still 136K IOPS off of my initial performance. But we are much closer now. The fix might not be 100% yet maybe, but than again, the 886K IOPS I initially had was on an empty non OS drive.

Interesting - just updated to the .469 build and ran the Samsung Magician built in benchmark. Definitely noticed an improvement from prior benchmarks (I have the 970 Evo Plus 2 TB). Random Write speed now at 241210 IOPS. It was at about 210000 previously. So about a 15% increase. I'll take it. Funny, I didn't see anything in the notes for the latest version regarding SSDs/or drives: January 25, 2022—KB5008353 (OS Build 22000.469) Preview (microsoft.com) Perhaps this wasn't targeted for improvement in this update, but is a byproduct of something else they did?

Let's hope we continue to see performance improvements.
