Have you run disk cleanup which may have remove uninstall files?
I test going backward on both KB5000842 updates.
I start with 19043.906 and use Control Panel to uninstall KB5000842 and build turn to 19043.899.
Now CTRL panel show KB5000842 again, but another date, uninstalling that and build turn to 19043.867.
Next I use Windows Update and get directly back to 19043.906.

Have you try to uninstall older KB5000842 (released 15th of March) and go back to .867 before update to .906?

The KB5000842 in .899 did not have the uninstall option, so I had to restore a build .867 and then update to .906 skipping .899.
The new kb5000842 in .906 has the uninstall option, but not the one in .899.
Eddie said they will fix this problem on next 21H1 update.

Another way around if there is no backup to restore to .867 and if kb5000842 cannot be uninstalled, is by doing update in place with the 19043.867 ISO which is now available on MS Insider site.
That worked fine too. :-)
I had that option also on build 19043.899.

Looks like many other people had the problem, maybe your update to .899 was done with a different version of the kb5000842, I sure could not uninstall it from .899, and did get the error 0x800f081f going from .899 to .906 with W.U. in Beta.
