I have 2 pc's with nvme drives. 1 pc has 2 nvme drives, a Samsung and a Corsair. This update fails on that pc. The second pc has 1 nvme drive, a Samsung, and the update works fine.
I am now trying to up date the 1st pc, with the latest ***.1010 release and see if that works.

Sure, I recall a black screen for a while whether the same one with "Updating your system 100%" & other unusual screens, but... I don't mind repeating that I fully agree that the lack of some sort of progress indicator or indication is somewhere between really silly, outrageous & totally unhelpful❗
Cheers,

If this is a bug, I can understand. If someone made a conscious decision to change it this way, they need to find that person a different job! Removing the % and of course the black empty screen make no sense.
