Hello, ebs4045
Welcome to the Microsoft community.
Thanks for your feedback.Windows Defender may block downloads, usually to protect your computer from potential malware and other security threats.
- Defender may think that the downloaded file contains malware or other security threats. You can scan the file with Defender or other security software to make sure it is safe.
- Some of Defender's security settings may restrict downloads.
Solution:
To adjust Defender settings.
Open the Windows Security Center.
Select Virus and Threat Protection.
Click on “Manage Settings”.
Check the “Real-time protection”, “Cloud-provided protection”, and “Automatically submit samples” settings to make sure they fit your needs. 3.
- Defender may block uncommon or newly released files because they may not be widely used or verified.
Solution.
Manually allow files.
In the Windows Security Center, navigate to Virus and Threat Protection.
Click Protect History.
Locate the blocked file and select “Allow on device”.
- Some file types, such as executables, may be blocked by Defender by default.
Solution.
Temporarily disable Defender (long-term disabling is not recommended and should only be done if you fully trust the source of the file).
Open Windows Security Center.
Select Virus and Threat Protection.
Click on “Manage Settings”.
Temporarily disable Real-Time Protection.
- Browser security settings also work with Defender to block downloads.
Solution.
Check your browser settings.
Make sure that your browser's download settings are not too restrictive.
In your browser's download manager, find the blocked file and select “Keep” or “Allow”.
- Network Security Policy
If you are on a corporate network, your network administrator may have set up policies to block certain types of downloads.
Solution.
Contact your network administrator: If you are in a corporate environment, contact your IT department to find out if there are any download restrictions.
Windows Defender blocks downloads primarily to keep your computer safe. If you are sure that the downloaded file is safe, you can solve the problem by adjusting the Defender settings or allowing the file manually. However, please be careful and make sure that the source of the file is trustworthy so that you don't download malware.
I look forward to your feedback.
