Whenever I click the taskbar search button, or when I click the search bar on the start menu, SearchHost.exe crashes.

I already have attempted to reset Cortana via settings and a clean boot (disabling startup apps). When in task manager, I can see that SearchHost.exe does start-up as intended, but then immediately stops.

This is a relatively new issue that only started happening to me about 4 hours ago. The only instances this happens are in the start menu and the taskbar, and other search bars work perfectly fine. This is still difficult to work around since much of the start menu is not functional because of this.

Went through all of the steps. Can I run setup.exe right away, or should I backup all of my files first so it carries over? I imaged my internal drives as a precaution, just wondering if just the backup will do the trick.

Also should this new install folder be saved on my usb or can it stay on C: as is?

The file can stay on C: or any other drive.

Just mount the ISO with file explorer and run setup to do an update/repair in place it will allow to keep all files and programs.

Also, the official Microsoft MCT ISO is now available at build 22621.1702. No need for a third-party download. 😉

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

The point is, this forum is for discussing preview builds, not public releases.

22621.1635 and 22621.1702 were both public and Release Preview.

From the versions of the failing components, he still is at 22621.1635 or 22621.1702. 🤷‍♂️

Powershell didn't find any faults, here is the recording and screenshots as you requested.

https://streamable.com/mls5tb At this stage, should I move on and try to reset the PC like you described above?

Too bad you cannot file an FBH report for MS to debug. The recording of the events is done through FBH.

I was not talking about a PC reset, an update/repair in place with ISO would allow you to keep all your files and programs, while a PC reset is reinstalling from scratch.

Do you know how to download and create an ISO 22621.1702 from https://uupdump.net  ?

Did you try all the commands below and found nothing?

    DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /CHECKHEALTH

    DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /SCANHEALTH

    DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH

    DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /STARTCOMPONENTCLEANUP

    SFC /SCANNOW
