Correction - There was a Windows Insider update after I posted my above reply. Now it looks like I'm onEval. Copy Build 23531.1001. And, yes, I'm on the Dev channel - which I never selected. Back in May, I just inquired about the Windows Insider program. Before I knew it, it was loaded and I did not have a choice of which channel to pick. It automatically chose the Dev channel.

So many people on this site have the same issue with automatically being enrolled when all they were doing, like me, was checking to see what the program is about. I realize I can only do a clean install.

You say that Build 22621.2215 is the current one., but I'm on Build 23531.1001. I don't even know what the Insider does and hope it isn't interfering with my laptop's operation or other Windows updates. Can you advise me on the build issue and what negative effects the Insider program has on my computer. I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks for your reply and hopefully you can give me more info/guidance.

You are on one experimental insider operating system Build 23531.1001, that is Insider development channel, which is used for testing new windows operating systems.

Click on the Windows Insider Program and see what it shows. It will show Dev and your email address linked to it.

You sure did not get there by accident, you enrolled in Dev without realizing what you were doing. 😂🤷‍♂️

Now if you want to go back to the standard public Build 22621.xxxx you have no other choice than doing a clean install.

The alternative is to stay with the Dev Build 23xxx, hoping that it will not have too many bugs. 🤞

Up to you what you decide to do.

I'm on Windows 11 and want out of the Insider Program. You say you don't have any problem getting out and staying out of Windows Insider. How did you do this? Did you do a clean install, which is something I want to avoid? Any suggestions?

Depends on what Build you have, please use the "winver" command and show which Build you are currently using.

The procedure is different for different situations.

If you have a Canary or Dev Builds, there is no way out other than a clean install of the current public Build.

If you are on Beta 22631 or Release Preview 22621 you can get out of insider without a clean install, but the procedure is a little different in the 2 cases.

I can tell you how after you report back showing your current Build. 😎

I am in Windows 11, not Windows 10. I never really signed up for Windows Insider but merely was just looking for info on it, but it signed me up anyway. A lot of others have the same issue. I show I'm on Windows 11 Home Insider Preview Evaluation Copy Build 23526.ni_prerelease 230811-1344. There are Windows 11 Insider Updates coming constantly, but I do receive some regular W11 updates. I'm hoping that the Insider Program is not preventing other needed W11 regular updates from being loaded. This is a mess. I don't want to do a clean install, since I just got this laptop in May and went through transferring all from my old laptop. Microsoft is no help at all. I don't know what else to do.

You say you are on Build 23526, that is Dev channel insider.

I don't know how you got there, but for sure it does not happen automatically.

You probably tried it out at some point without realizing that you were enrolling to insider. 😎

You will not receive the public build update because that requires Build 22621.2215 (This is the current one)

Unfortunately, the only way out of Dev insider, is by doing a clean install of the current public Build.

Thanks for the info, but I don't need anything special to get out from insider.

Maybe your machine meets the requirements for Windows 11, and they are trying to push you to upgrade from Windows 10 to windows 11.

Anyway, on Windows 10 and Windows 11, I don't have any problem getting out and staying out of windows insider. 😉😉🤷‍♂️
