Well will wonders never cease. Unplugging that external HD and restarting the update WORKED. Glory BE! I have no clue why that was the problem, but I have to say I'm sure relieved!

Connected external drives have been causing problems before on upgrades. Not really a surprise. 🤷‍♂️😎

Jason, unplugging my external HD FIXED THE PROBLEM. Don't ask me why!!!

On my previous reply to you (when I asked you about what the "extended code" was), there was a link to an MS article in which one of the first things they suggest is to disconnect external devices.

Have not looked into this concern, been busy with health (I am winning the fight with cancer) and other things.

    Godspeed, get well soon!

On my non-compliant laptop I have like a version of file explorer that looks like the one from Win8 and early Win10. No idea where that came from.

I experienced that anomaly as well. 🤷‍♂️

Thank you, Sibro. I saw that in the post, but must admit I was slow to believe it! I've had that external drive connected with every update since I got that PC a year ago and had no problems with it until now. I think Star Trek's Mr. Spock and his fellow Vulcans would've never solved this one, because you just can't always use logic with these bugs. 😊
