Why was the tablet-optimised taskbar removed in 22623.1325?

The tablet-optimized taskbar has been working perfectly well for months, & suddenly it's been removed without warning. The blog post about the update doesn't say anything. Just something about how there was a fix for an issue causing the taskbar to be cut off after resolution changes.

Does anyone know why a perfectly useful feature was removed?

For no obvious reason, certainly nothing I have changed, my Lenovo Yoga that had suffered from the missing Tablet Optimized Taskbar now has it back today.

Confirmed, I have the option again in Taskbar settings and also the actual collapsed taskbar when it switches to tablet mode with Build 22624.1537.

Now we have to wait for the same fix to be released to Public build.

Good to have the option to turn it off, many users don't need it or don't want the extra annoyance. 🤣🤷‍♂️

This is a Lenovo YOGA 920-13IKB, fully supported 2-in-1 laptop.

    Does anyone know why a perfectly useful feature was removed?

    MS mentioned it in a blog but I can find it, sorry.

    The feature should still work, IIRC I think they said that now Windows automatically detects a capable tablet mode device thus the reason they removed it from settings but I could be wrong.

    Nope, it doesn't detect it. I don't mean the feature was removed in settings (though that is also the case). It does not work at all.

    We don't work for MS, just volunteers here and I don't own a tablet capable device, this is the best I can do:

    How to Turn On/Off Tablet Mode in Windows 11

    "In Windows 11, there is no option to turn on or off the Tablet mode. This feature is enabled on touch screen devices by default. If you have a touch-only device or a 2-in-1 device you can use without the keyboard, you can enable the Tablet mode in Windows 11 by detaching the keyboard."

    What I see when it switches to tablet it increases the spacing of the icons in the taskbar so that with my fat fingers, I don't hit 2 at the same time. 🤣🤣🤣

    2 Notes in the R.P. Blog are not quite clear to me. 😎

    • New! This update enhanced the system tray (formerly called the notification area). All icons had a rounded focus and hover treatment in the lower right, including the “Show hidden icons” flyout menu. You could move icons to rearrange them in the “Show hidden icons” flyout menu or move icons to the taskbar.
    • New! This update introduced a touch-optimized taskbar for 2-in-1 devices that you could use as a tablet. There were two states of this taskbar: collapsed and expanded. To switch between the two states, swipe up and down on the bottom of your screen. When collapsed in tablet mode*,*the taskbar receded to give you more screen space and kept you from accidentally opening the taskbar. When expanded in tablet mode, the taskbar was optimized to be easier to use with touch. Your taskbar automatically changed to this optimized version when you disconnected or folded back the keyboard.
      • This feature only worked on devices that could be used as tablets and was on by default. To change that, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. The setting is called “Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet.” If your company manages Windows updates for your device, this feature will be off by default. Administrators can turn it on using the new commercial control for continuous innovation.
