Definitely seems to be fixed today, again the pictures were updated in sync on the 2 features Windows Spotlight for the Lock Screen and Spotlight collection for the Background.
Working correctly with new pictures for both features. Same behavior verified with 3 machines.
Perhaps you should try enabling both features to confirm that the problem is fixed.
Several minutes later the same sequence of updates happened on a second machine confirming the same logic,
Assets pictures were updated in sync for Windows Spotlight Lock Screen and Spotlight Collection for the Background, and both continued to work correctly.
Looks like they may have finally got it right! 😉
This time the update of the pictures for Windows Spotlight Lock Screen and the Background Spotlight Collection appeared to be in sync and both features continued to work correctly, we'll see if this will be the case on next Assets update. 🤐😎
Back with the collection of 5 new pictures again after several days, we'll see how long it will last this time.

As I already said earlier, I could also verify again today that when the update of the Lock Screen picture happened, it screwed up the Spotlight collection. 🤣
This is definitely the bug. Windows spotlight for the Lock screen messes up the Background Spotlight collection every time it makes an update of the Lock screen pictures.
They need a fix to handle both features independently using two separate folders for the assets,
or synchronize the updates so that one does not disrupt the pictures for the other.
You can easily reproduce this bug if you enable both features.
Got the exact same behavior on two machines.
Spotlight collection for the background disappeared again today at the time the Lock screen picture was updated.
New Lock screen pictures updated today:
