On Jan 24, 2023, W.U. downloaded and updated Windows security with this KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2301.24001).
After this update the security icon on the system tray showed a yellow warning triangle, and then the icon completely disappeared after a reboot.
No way to get the icon back on the System Tray. 🤷♂️
I can still open security if I search for it in settings, but there is no apparent reason for the shortcut on the system tray to be missing.
It looks like starting with Build 25272 the windows security updates are messed up and out of sync with the currently installed windows Build.
I could reproduce the same issue restoring a backup of Build 25281 and then going through W.U. checking for updates, the same scenario repeated again.
Right after the update shows yellow warning on security icon:
Everything green here, but Firewall & network protection is missing, that may be the reason for the yellow warning.

No Idea what triggers the download and install of those updates. 🤷♂️

It didn't happen on the VM after resetting the Store and getting Store Experience Host so that's not it.
This VM never got KB5007651 either.

Difficult to figure out the criteria they use for those kb5007651.
For the same physical machine, I have different copies on backup of Dev build at the same level, just with different computer names, just to compare how they activate different experimental features.
DEVL11-7H80S33, DEVLB-7H80S33, DEVLC-7H80S33
The first two are getting KB5007651 updates, the third one never got a single one.
So, the security app version on the first 2 is 1000.25285.0.1000 plus the 2301 service while the third one has 1000.25290.0.1000 and no service. 🤣🤣🤣

The laptop was off, search in taskbar was disable/hidden as always but when I turned the PC back on I found the search box in the taskbar and now Security shows this 🤣
