Build 25281, Windows Security Icon/Shortcut missing from System Tray after KB5007651 Platform update Version 1.0.2301.24001.

On Jan 24, 2023, W.U. downloaded and updated Windows security with this KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2301.24001).

After this update the security icon on the system tray showed a yellow warning triangle, and then the icon completely disappeared after a reboot.

No way to get the icon back on the System Tray. 🤷‍♂️

I can still open security if I search for it in settings, but there is no apparent reason for the shortcut on the system tray to be missing.

It looks like starting with Build 25272 the windows security updates are messed up and out of sync with the currently installed windows Build.

I could reproduce the same issue restoring a backup of Build 25281 and then going through W.U. checking for updates, the same scenario repeated again.

Right after the update shows yellow warning on security icon:

Everything green here, but Firewall & network protection is missing, that may be the reason for the yellow warning.

    I clean installed 25267 because due to the resolution bug I can't use anything newer.

    I haven't seen this bug yet but updates are paused so I don't get 25284.

    Is there a way to fix my 25267 backup?

    When you restore the backup is it showing the correct security version?

    Use the PowerShell command Get-AppPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI to see what is installed.

    If it is not already screwed up, you need to find a way for blocking W.U. from reinstalling those kb5007651.

    I saw you had 2 in there 2301.7001 and 2301.24001, is either one of those already in your backup?

    If neither of those are present you should be fine.

    They may come down again when you resume the updates.

    Unfortunately, we don't know yet how W.U. is deciding to download those 2 updates. 🤷‍♂️

    I'm trying to compare the hidden features of the 2 machines that behave differently, but I don't know if I find out anything. 😎

    With Build 25284 there is no need to fix it, because 1.0.2301.24001 installs version 1000.25285.0.1000 which is compatible with 25284 Build.

    It was creating problems when it got installed in Build 25281, but after updating to 25284 it works fine.

    The problem Pauli shows is that it got installed on Build 22621.1105 and it creates the same issue we saw with 25281.

    When I fixed it in 25281, W.U. reinstalled the damn faulty update and the problem came back.

    There has to be a simple way to prevent W.U. from reinstalling it.

    MS should not download that Security update on Builds that are not compatible with it, in that case they just add bugs.

    Last year in similar situation they just pulled the incompatible updates KB5007651 a week later.

    Looks like this time they are not that quick.

    The problem started with 25272 and it is still happening 3 weeks later. 🤣🤣🤣🤬

    I saw four different Symptoms depending on the combination of the Windows Build number and the kb5007651 update version.
