What does Microsoft do with my contacts list?

I tried to sign up to receive email information from the program related to the Windows 10 upgrade and during the process I was informed that Microsoft wants to have access to my contacts list.

Now that is a very serious request, so there must be a fair bit of documentation about why Microsoft wants access to my contacts list -- where might that documentation be found?

What exactly will Microsoft do with my contacts list?

Who at Microsoft will be able to view the list?

And I will probably have more questions as those answers come in.

I did try to use the search tool here for answers, but without any luck, so if I made a mistake during that search, please forgive me.

    Websites can use Microsoft accounts as login credentials, and this screen is the way of showing what information is shared with the website when you log in with your MS account. It was not an app that gave this permission.

    Its a login, soooo.... not getting on what your complaint it, unless you just were planning on logging on as anonymous, and in which case, if your privacy is that much of a concern, you might just want to hard disconnect from all technology because it all can be traced if one tries hard enough.

    Thanks, I missed the login option on the website.

    easylist-msie.adblockplus.org/ privacy protection in IE has around 10 services on the landing page blocked on blogs.windows.com. - This is a good example that the privacy concerns posted by HFM47 are justified.

    I leave this political and ethical battle to others. I have enough technical issues with Windows Phone. ;-)
