What does Microsoft do with my contacts list?

Well, Hans, there is no doubt that something has changed.  And for those just viewing this discussion for the first time and possibly in a rush, without time to be going through all 6 pages I have just created a before/after image that certainly shows the change.  Timestamps are at this work station, by the way, which might be a bit far from some of you and the last one being ahead of most of you right now.  (But we are so kind here not to hold up the sun from getting to you folks on schedule, so don't worry.)

But, Hans, as you so aptly wrote in your February 25th post, we still need to be sure about what exactly it means by "be able to see the email addresses in your profile".

If that means just seeing my email addresses, that's a whole different ballgame.  But as I stated from the beginning, it is to protect information about my friends and colleagues that is the motivation for me.  I would have to ask each and every person before I could feel good about letting some company official I do not know see the information I have about my friends and colleagues.

And what is so ironic in this type of situation is that the very technology we are working with here, and through the Windows Insider program helping to develop, is technology with its ultimate purpose to allow all of us humans to better share information to improve our lives, yet we have here the withholding of information right here at the very "Gateway" (Coined by Vince and Bob in 1973 that made this all possible.) -- at this very gateway of an information sharing project we have a block.  Could anyone blame anyone for asking why the blocking of information?

And what is the block blocking?  It is blocking information directly related to the personal security, privacy, of my friends and colleagues.  If I hadn't asked the questions, somebody else most certainly would have.

So now we would like somebody to answer the question that remains of what email addresses in our profile do you folks in them offices see -- just ours? Or also those of our friends and colleagues?

And I'll thank you in advance for any possible attention one of you Microsoft folks will focus to the question.  Thank you.

And it would only be polite for us -- not just me -- all of us that have participated in this discussion to offer thanks for the change which has come about, maybe because of what we've done here, not that we know that for sure, but it's possible, I suppose.  Thank you from me for that.

It has changed, when compared with the screenshot posted on page 3.

The requirement for View your profile info and contact list that worried me too is gone now.

I was informed that Microsoft wants to have access to my contacts list.

I just went through this exercise again, because I'm sure there's a misunderstanding afoot. I see the following:

The email addresses in your profile ≠ your contacts list

Your profile is accessible at profile.live.com. There may be more than one address recorded there for you, but not for anyone else. Your contacts list is at contacts.live.com, and you haven't given permission for anyone else to access that.
