Browsers crashing on 25272 to 25300 - Display Resolution Bug - Temporarily Solved

Chrome, Edge & Firefox, all crash and the OS becomes unresponsive, I can't recover it unless I shutdown.

Anyone else seeing this?

Update:

A temporary solution is to use recommended display resolution or change to MS basic display driver.

I added build 25290 to the tiltle because even though the blog calls it fixed, some users are still experiencing this bug.

    i have a surface pro 4 with this same issue

    i just thought it was my SP4 untill some put this on a page id opened for advice

    Temporary solutions are listed at the top and wait until they fix the bug or clean install 25267

    Hi,

    I just updated NVIDIA Driver to 528.23 for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, and the last Windows Update is Windows 11 Insider Preview 25284.1000 (rs_prerelease)

    My max resolution is 3840 x 2160, and It is Recommended. The scale I am using is 225% on the Laptop monitor (Too old to be 4K) for my ASUS GL552VW.

    I changed to 3840 x 2160 resolution, and I restarted. I am using Firefox, and until now, It is not making a crash.
    I opened Chrome, and It crashed immediately, but now it allows me to close the program without Windows freezing.

    I opened Edge, and It crashed immediately and did not allow me to close the program. I forced close by Task Manager and Windows freeze. I had to restart.

    After restarting without changing the resolution, I opened Firefox to write this summary, and It was not crashing.

    I opened Chrome and crashed. I closed the program and returned to Firefox, and almost when I was going to hit the submitting button, the Windows froze, and I had to restart again.

    I changed the resolution to 1366 x 768 and wrote the summary on this page again with Firefox.

    I opened Chrome and Edge without issue and returned to Firefox, which is still working.

    Then with the recommended resolution, it is not working.

    With the 1366 x 768, It works with Firefox.

    In previous tests with the exact resolution, Chrome crashed after a while or with some types of content.

    The last Windows Update is still not helping.

    Nvidia Driver update didn't affect the behavior.

    Cristian,

    I was not asking the max resolution of the Nvidia adapter/driver, but the one of the actual screen.

    If the screen cannot support the recommended resolution it is not going to work.

    In your case, as a temporary workaround use the suggestion on page one.

    Uninstall the Nvidia driver and use the Microsoft basic display driver supplied by windows.

    Then wait for a fix from Microsoft on future Builds. 🤷‍♂️

    Same issue with my SP4

    Changing the resolution to anything but "recommended" worked for me.

    Still buggy screen issues as Windows gives a weird "overlays" of my Edge browser, which "fade away" when I move the coursor to the edges of the screen.

    Changing the Hardware accleration - as mentioned in another Thread did not work for me.
