Preparing for Insider Preview Builds of Windows 11 - ***UPDATED 6/28***

I have the 6th generation Intel CPU which I upgraded to it, last year (i7 6700K).

What do I have to do now?

To buy another processor to run Win11?

I think that my MB (MSI Z170A M7) doesn't support the 10th generation.

That's a lot of money.. and my PC isn't too old in age. It only has 2 years

I'd love to test win11 & suggest to make it better

I don't want to be reverted back to Win10, or being unable to use my PC

Please include the  i7 6700K there (in the list of compatible CPUs)

Just checked out a few seconds ago. My MB does only support "6th Gen Intel® Core™ i3/i5/i7 processors, and Intel® Pentium® and Celeron® processors for Socket LGA1151" (according to its manual)

Here is the red message on a Legacy BIOS machine, not very clear about the meaning.

Will this machine still be allowed to get windows 11 previews untill GA ?

Will there be an upgrade from build 21390.2025 to Windows 11 on this machine or am I reading this wrong ?

Once it goes GA, the device will no longer receive W11 flights. Since the device does not meet the requirements for 11, you will need to clean install 10 at that time.

I'm hoping this is correct.

Doing so, puts your device in an unsupported state and is not recommended.

But they haven't mentioned any 4th , 5th, 6th or 7th gen CPUs in their compatibility list

Generation is a soft floor requirement.

There are new minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11. In order to run Windows 11, devices must meet the following specifications. Devices that do not meet the hard floor cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, and devices that meet the soft floor will receive a notification that upgrade is not advised.

Hard Floor:

• CPU: Core >= 2 and Speed >= 1 GHz
• System Memory: TotalPhysicalRam >= 4 GB
• Storage: 64 GB
• Security: TPM Version >= 1.2 and SecureBootCapable = True
• Smode: Smode is false, or Smode is true and C_ossku in (0x65, 0x64, 0x63, 0x6D, 0x6F, 0x73, 0x74, 0x71)

Soft Floor:

• Security: TPMVersion >= 2.0
• CPU Generation

My BIOS / Motherboard has not TPM (Trusted Platform Module) to be enable !

TPM 1.2 or 2.0 will not alleviate the problem!

Looks like a helpful discussion.

Understand that some Intel chips may have TPM .  Not sure what version or if updatable.

A number of Motherboards do have a slot for TPM.  Many ASUS x99 boards do.

Looks like we need more clarity on processors.  Is socket 2011 ok ?  Just change the Processor ?

If there is a release to insiders next week we will need more info.
