Preparing for Insider Preview Builds of Windows 11 - ***UPDATED 6/28***

Changing from MBR to GPT requires reinstalling Windows , right ?  

That is like re-formatting the drive.  Also, what does than mean for the Windows 'hidden' partition sizes and locations ?

Similarly ,  how to change from Legacy to UEFI without reinstall ?  

Isn't that part of the groundwork done before Window actually sets up shop ?  

Have always preferred Legacy mode (still sometimes need to boot Win 7) but looks like Win 11 won't accept that like Win 10 did. So people who were used to dual booting Win10 and Win7 can use them for now but likely not a possibility for W11.  With UEFI, TPM, and (looks like) No more 'local' accounts it will be a different world indeed.

I have been knocked off Window 11 preview due to " incompatible processor"  I am running:  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.60 GHz.  TPM 2.0.  Is this a mistake?

Sorry to say, but the 8th generation(coffee lake) series is the min cpu requirement for Windows 11.

I am not connected with thewindowsclub.com but it has some helpful Window s information and I have not had a bad download from them.  I believe the link they give is to the actual Microsoft site.  

Please be aware. The PC Health check may not be accurate on some devices.  They recently made some changes to better ID TPM on laptops but some issues persist.   On my device it ID's the  build number as one much older than on the machine.

Am going to guess that by next week they will have that ironed out and we will get more accurate results.

Suggest checking the box to save it to your desktop so you can periodically run the test .

Well, lets take a look at Windows 7 for a minute. Microsoft put it on extended life support (for corporations) and does not support it anymore.

There are still 'some' Win 7 (and xt) computers still running either off grid or for people who have legacy programs that they have not taken the time to replace.  Many people are moving to Windows 10 because there are replacements for the older programs and Windows 10 does it more efficiently (saves steps).  A voluntary act.

So, it is not likely someone will come to your door to collect or 'bin' your device.  It simply won't be as useful as the newer devices.

Communication speeds are improving as well as response times.  The older a piece of hardware gets it becomes harder for it to be updated and for it to keep up or be compatible.  

Security is yet another issue that is reason to update. Some older hardware will be hard to update due to constraints. You can add new boards and modules on a PC but that is not an option for most laptops (it really pays to go over the specs on those).  

More than likely the reason you might want to upgrade is for a better experience or maybe the hardware will just quit.  Some devices are just not repairable...
