Clearly it needs to be turned on to be visible, but it can still be showing in the hidden items if it is not enabled. 😎

Also, the icon can be dragged in but not out. 😂🤷‍♂️

Yes, of course, it can show or not via that/its button. Although, it does show, by default or initially.

Mentioning it was part of my trying to sort Dennis having it on the taskbar but not the Sys Tray. But I believe the reason just came to me... it has to be turned on in Sys Tray icons❗

If it/that is not On, would explain why he has it on the taskbar and not in the Sys Tray.

OR this is why

Mine is Off BUT certain items have been moved from it to the Sys Tray, thus showing, anyway.

Yes, certainly, it will be in both places whilst it, actually, open or 'in use', otherwise in the Sys Tray only, unless, as you said, one hits Quit.

You may find this interesting. I have 2 Profile acc'ts, one Tech and one Personal. I, also, have a desktop devoted to my IT work. So, I have 2 Copilots (web converted to app). And I, also, pay attention to the MS Store Copilot app, be it Win11 GA or IB. I like the History change with the IB version, but in Win11 GA, I prefer the Copilot web to app approach.

Single arrow is Personal, double is Tech & triple is MS Store.
