That's true... unless one hits the Check for Updates button and see the check mark on it OR NOT.

Although, my own habit is to hit it no matter what, anyway. I have always found any available updates don't show up unless & until I hit it. Even after updates are done, I hit it again to know there's no more/others and have the check mark and be told everything is (now) up to date. So, maybe, not all that necessary. I understand you saying it's silly, but really doesn't make much real difference, IMHO.
