Clean Install of Windows 11 Ni Preview Build works with Build 22557, but not with 22563, 22567, 22572, 22581, 22593, 25115

I created all 5 installation ISO files for all 5 Builds, but only 22557 contains all the system Apps required for a full clean install, the other 4 are missing all the basic Windows and System Apps needed for a functional system. Also, the App required for opening Windows Security (Microsoft.SecHeatlthUI) is missing, all this makes the resulting system unusable.

Last one on 22557.

Microsoft.SecHealthUI Microsoft.SecHealthUI_1000.22557.1.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

I noticed another issue common to all the Ni builds, if they are used for an upgrade or in-place they may only work correctly if they are done online allowing the check for updates.

If I use the option "Change how Setup download updates" to "Not right now", the upgrade or update in place still completes, but it creates a problem on subsequent W.U.

In this case W.U. goes in a loop trying to Download and Install the same Build over and over. Error 0xc1900401 is logged in that case.

I could not find a way out of that loop.

If I do the same upgrade or update in place online letting the Setup check for updates, as recommended, the process may complete correctly without subsequent W.U. loop issues, but the behavior is inconsistent depending on how the previous update was done.

The official MS Insider ISO 22579 includes all the required Apps and the Microsoft.SecHealthUI which is needed for opening Security.

    Hi fg,

I kept trying to confirm Widgets but I cannot upgrade in-place from 19044.1620 to 22581.200, the result is always the same, either on VM or laptop. No problem clean installing or updating in-place 22581.200 using the ISO so IDK what's going on.

btw, the first two times I run setup.exe I got the alternate menu as if I was trying to update from USB, on the third time the correct menu showed up.

    Hi fg,

As you like to make an ISO from SoftwareDistribution, when you dl the apps from the dump, just retain the 57 files in the Apps folder and copy them to wimlib every time you create an ISO. You will be good to go.

    Regards,

    Hi Johnny,

This is what it downloads with the new script v79 for 22581.200.

The _AppsFilesList.cvs has a list of 3278 files the Apps folder has 57 Subfolders with the Apps bundles.

Still the question remains, is there a set of Updated Apps that needs to be downloaded with every new build?

This comment on the Readme file is interesting, perhaps here we can point to the SoftwareDistribution folder for other UUPs instead of copying everything in the same folder? Will it still add the Apps?

"Place UUP files in this folder to be detected automatically

alternatively, you will be prompted to enter other UUP folder path "

    Edit:

No, I still have to do a manual merge of the UUPs before converting. 😒

Had to copy the Apps folder and _AppsFilesList.csv into the W.U. folder below and then run the converter pointing to it.

It added the Apps as expected in this case.

    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\568286ff50581ef39098f8efac35127b

Got this message when using SoftwareDistribution "PSF file missing"

    Thanks Johnny,

I will have to copy the content of SoftwareDistribution\Download to the same folder where the Apps folder is (wimlib or whatever name I use) and then run the converter pointing to it.

The way I used to do it before Ni builds was just pointing the coverter to SoftwareDistribution\Download before rebooting and that was all I needed to do to build the ISO. 😉

Also, the Apps can be a different version with each new build, so we will have to download the latest ones for the specific build?

    Interesting indeed.

I see some glitches here & there during the download and a few weird errors on VM.

I don't think we can consider the script 100% reliable at this point.

btw: the ISO creation took an hour on this old laptop, the addition of the apps was like 10 minutes, the addition of the CUs was the most time consuming as always.

edit: I had a VM running so it took longer than usual due to lack of resources.
