Update Error in Windows 10 21H1 ( OS Build : 19043.899 )

Thanks, I don't have a flash drive big enough and live in Assisted Living, we are still Phase 1,  so I can't go shopping.  I might go online and do that later though.  

I thank you for all your advice and help.  I'll just tag along and see what happens, the error, doesn't, as far as I know, affect my other PCing.

Hi Caroline,

You can try with the installation ISO.  You can download either the insider ISO or the current 20H2 ISO that you can create with the Media Creation Tool 20H2. 

I just tried it and that worked too, on the PC enrolled in Beta channel.  Updated from 21H1 19043.899 to 19042.928 using the ISO 19042.631 which is the latest available on the public Win 10 download site.

Download the Media Creation Tool first and follow the instruction to create the windows.iso  (20H2 installation  ISO 19042.631).

Once you have that, right click and mount it and then start the setup.exe.

After you get to 19042.928 you can use Windows Update to get the enablement package and it gets you back to 21H1 19043.928.

I just don't have the confidence, I'm 78 and have memory problems.  

I read one reply that said the clean out the software distribution download folder and try to install it from the Windows Update Catalog, using KB5001350 and use the 20H2 instead of 21H1, which isn't in the catalog.

Do you think that might be worth a try?   

btw, it won't let me go back to a restore point, something about 10days

I was not talking about a restore point, I was referring to a Backup of the system saved on a separate external or internal drive from which you could do a restore of the whole C: disk.

As far as installing from the catalog I don't think it will help in this case.

I know for sure the and update in place using the ISO file or the Installation media from a USB flash drive works.

From what I understand you don't have a 19043 installation media or ISO file.

Since they are all based on 19041 perhaps it can be done with the 19042 installation media, (assuming you have that),  but I have not tried to see if that works. The official MCT 19042 installation media is still at level 19042.631.

I checked out the link and NO, I don't know how to download the 19043 Insider Preview ISO.  It sounds too risky for me and I don't know if I could ever reinstall Win 10 if I goof it up.

I guess I'll wait around and maybe it will clear up sooner or later.

Nothing risky, just follow the instructions, I guess you have never downloaded and used an ISO before ?

You can wait for next cumulative update and hope they get this problem fixed.

Also I assume you don't make backups ?

If you had a backup of the system before updating to .899 you could restore it and do Windows Update from the previous good level and that works fine too.

Anyway, if you just want to wait and hope, that is the third alternative, good luck 😉
