Windows 11 Build 22000.51 - Settings Fails to Launch for Devices with Multiple User Accounts

Hello Windows Insiders!

We released the first preview build of Windows 11 today to the Dev Channel.  We're excited and hope you are as well!

There is currently a known issue that affects devices with multiple user accounts that take this upgrade.  Here are the details and a workaround for the bug.

Who:  Dev Channel users installing the upgrade to build 22000.51

What:  Settings app will fail to launch on devices that have multiple user accounts prior to the build install

Why:  Known bug causing the issue, fix is underway for a future preview build

To work around this issue after the install, please follow these steps:

  1. Ensure all work is saved on the device.  Close open applications.
  2. Click Start
  3. Type powershell and select/launch the Windows PowerShell application

4. Copy/paste and execute this ENTIRE command:

- *Get-appxpackage microsoft.ui.xaml.cbs |? {($\_.version -ne "2.62106.1002.0")} | remove-appxpackageAdd-appxpackage -Register -DisableDevelopmentMode -ForceApplicationShutdown C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.UI.Xaml.CBS\_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xmlGet-appxpackage microsoft.ui.xaml.cbs |? {($\_.version -ne "2.62106.1002.0")} | remove-appxpackageAdd-appxpackage -Register -DisableDevelopmentMode -ForceApplicationShutdown C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.UI.Xaml.CBS\_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xml*
  1. Once completed, please try to open the Settings app.  If it opens successfully, you're done!
  2. If the issue persists, please paste and re-run the command a second time
  3. After running the script a second time, please open the Settings app again.
  4. If the crash issues persists, please reboot the device and this should complete the process.

That should fix affected devices. We're also working on a fix that will be included in a future preview build to prevent users from needing this workaround.

    SOLVED: I had this issue with just the Language Bar showing after the Preview Upgrade. I couldn't access the Start Menu, Settings etc and here is how I fixed it. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING FIRST. Press alt+ctrl+delete - Task Manager - File - Run New Task - msconfig - Click "Services" Tab - Check Hide All Microsoft Services - then Disable All - Click Apply and Restart Later - Also try disabling all Startup Programs - Press alt+ctrl+delete - Task Manager - Startup Tab - Disable all Startup Items one by one. Restart your PC. Don't Worry this may not completely work until the Next Step. If it doesn't allow you to log in the next thing I did was - Press alt+ctrl+delete - Task Manager. Then Scroll all the way down to "Windows Logon Application" then right Click and end process. Your Desktop should be visible now (and should stay that way when you restart) if not try Press alt+ctrl+delete - Task Manager. Then Scroll all the way down to "Windows Start-up Application" then right Click and end process - Your Desktop should be visible now (and should stay that way when you restart) Hope this helped. The first step of disabling all non Microsoft Services and Startup Programs may not be the Issue so this step may not be necessary. Also to be honest I cannot remember if it was the End Process of the "Windows Logon Application" or the "Windows Start-up Application" that did it as I had a few drinks by this stage. Although when you end the Process it takes you straight to the Desktop with everything available. Good Luck, Stay Positive and Be Well.

    Thank you SO much. Stopping the startup items and ending the "Windows Logon Application" is what fixed it for me. I didn't have to disable all of my services.

    Dear manager,

    I have a problem in windows 11 massage come from setting " Something heppened, and we couldnt install the feature"

    So, I cant install the new feature. than Lively Wallpapaers also not supporting.

    Please give me the solution for this.
