    I tried that and it went away but as soon as the time went back it came back and check for updates button is gone

    Did you actually get the Beta update?

    If you did, you might have to wait til the

    next update comes out and try it again.

    Also file the issue in the Feedback Hub and

    use the Record option.

    Restarting in Safe mode throws up the Unknown hard error but clicking ok proceeds to sign on and then Safe mode desk top.
