Problem with games and DirectX in Windows 10 Technical Preview

After installing Windows 10 Technical Preview (a clean install) pretty much 99% of my games stopped working. Most of these I got on Steam, so when I try to play one, it starts the first-time setup, where it tries to install DirectX and then it just returns to desktop. If I try again, it just does the same, but if it's one of the few games which don't install it when running them the first time (i.e., Binding of Isaac), then it has no problems.

After that, I tried to play a couple of relatively new games I got from GoG, but they gave me error messages when trying to install DirectX. They still install, but if I try to play them they don't run because they can't find DirectX-related dlls in the computer.

According to Dxdiag, though, DirectX 11 is installed. Reading forums, it seems to me that most people can play games with no problem with the Tech Preview, but some can't because Windows 10 doesn't recognize their graphic cards, and they have to switch to integrated graphics. I can't do this, as my motherboard doesn't have them, but at least when checking system information it seems that the OS recognizes the card (a Radeon Hd 4870, not exactly cutting edge stuff...), so not sure if it's the same, though it might be, as I tried installing the latest drivers for Windows 7/8 and couldn't. Has anybody had similar problems? And did anyone manage to solve them, and how?

    Im also having the same issue, World of Warcraft works fine for me, but I'm having issues with Ghost Recon. The screens goes blank/black for about 3 to 5 seconds and then returns to the desk top. This game worked in Windows 8.1 although it didn't like duel monitor setup.

    I've tried the following,

    1. different compatibility modes, none make a difference, although I do need to have "run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" ticked
    2. I've also followed earlier links in this thread to download dxwebsetup, which installed a few items and didn't improve my situation
    3. tried a couple of "Failed to create D3D device" work-arounds, out of desperation and that didn't help either
    4. pulled my hair out :p

    This is the problem i was having 

    The way i found to fix this was using the Program Comparability Troubleshooter

    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Programs

    I actually like the new Windows 10, but I also receive a similar error when doing a benchmark test with PassMark's Performance Test 8.o., when it attempts to do any 3D benchmarks. It either faults or displays an error and skips the 3D test all together.

    I thought perhaps it may have been that PassMark needed to update to a Windows 1`0 version, but reading the above issues might suggest that perhaps a glitch in Windows.

    I just figured I would post this error here as well and perhaps may add another aspcxt to follow up on.

    Hi there. I have similiar problem. I didn't check all my games yet but for now some of them has problem with directX. It says "INITIALIZATION PROBLEM, I CAN NOT FIND DIRECTX 5". Funny coz it says i have directX 12 installed, and yeah I've tried to install this thing -> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 but didn't help. I also reinstalled my drivers after upgrading to windows 10.
