System & reserved files on a secondary drive?

System > Storage > Advance storage settings > Disk & volumes > Disk 1 > Volume name > Properties > View usage

I didn't know about this until now, is this normal? why do we need system & reserved files on a secondary drive?

Copy back a few folders at the time and keep checking to see when those 14GB start showing up in the System files. Then you can isolate which one is causing the problem.

I followed your advise and copying folder by folder does not reproduce the issue.

However, if I copy everthing at once the 14GBs come back. 🤷‍♂️

Good that you could clean it up.

I guess we'll never know what caused the problem in the first place.

Perhaps when you got the BSOD?

Probably when you do a clone you copy over also the problem. 🤣🤣

    227MB is nothing, it is probably needed for the file system, it shows some MBs on all drives.

    I'm sure you can delete your 14GB too.

    The ammount of data doesn't matter and I can't delete what I can't find.

    I appreciate your input but you're not getting my point.

    Never mind System Protection or Restore Points files, we are talking about System & reserved files that should not be on a secondary drive for many logical reasons.

    For example, what if the drive fails and needs replacement?

    What happens then if Windows needs that specific data for some type of recovery?

    I exchanged drive D: with a newly formatted one and Windows is still reporting a usage of 96.7MB of System & reserved files, where are they?. There are no hidden partitions nor hidden folders or files so what are these files and why are they there in the first place?

    Click on that System and reserved and see if they are just System files.

    If they are just system files there is nothing to delete.

    I'm not missing the point. We already have System & reserve files on the C: drive

    There should not be duplicates of system files or whatever they are on a secondary drive, period!

    Let's just leave at that.

    There are system files on every drive.

    Here, just formatted an external drive, it is empty. It still has 142 MB of System files. 🤣
