System & reserved files on a secondary drive?

System > Storage > Advance storage settings > Disk & volumes > Disk 1 > Volume name > Properties > View usage

I didn't know about this until now, is this normal? why do we need system & reserved files on a secondary drive?

Copy back a few folders at the time and keep checking to see when those 14GB start showing up in the System files. Then you can isolate which one is causing the problem.

I followed your advise and copying folder by folder does not reproduce the issue.

However, if I copy everthing at once the 14GBs come back. 🤷‍♂️

Good that you could clean it up.

I guess we'll never know what caused the problem in the first place.

Perhaps when you got the BSOD?

Probably when you do a clone you copy over also the problem. 🤣🤣

    If you have system protection enable then that is fine as long as the numbers match, but never mind that,

    in my case it is disabled.

    Windows is reporting 14GB of ghost files, where are they? and why they're on both drives?

    Mine were disabled too, but it was old space used, so I just deleted the old restore points and now that space has been freed up.

    All gone after deleting old Restore points, only 227 MB showing now:

    I deleted all the old restore points, I never used them. 🤣

    Looks like the default setting for Restore points is 30% of the disk space.

    But my system protection is disabled, so I should not see that space used again. 🤷‍♂️

    The only Reserved partition on my secondary drives in the MSR, in my case is 128MB instead of the minimum 16MB, just for consistency with the other GPT formatted drives.

    My external drives are still formatted as MBR so they don't have any MSR. I don't know where those 14GB you show on the other thread are coming from. My D: drive shows 68.7 BG. Perhaps the space used for Image backups. 🤷‍♂️

    The reserve partition on C: is something entirely different, don't worry about that.

    The issue here is why do we have system & reserved files on secondary drives?

    I see you have 27.9GB on one drive and a whooping 519GB on another.

    AFAIK, secondary drives should not have ANY System & reserved files or Reserved storage files on them, they are already on the C: drive.

    Are these duplicates files or Windows is misreporting the location because I can't find these files on D: drive even though the space is taken.

    The ones I'm showing are not on the C: drive they are on D: and external drives too.

    What do they consider System & reserved on that screen?

    Here they show the 63.3 GB on the D: disk as System restore.

    On the external drive it is much bigger, 519 GB, I have no idea how they figure that, I don't have many backups on that drive. 🤷‍♂️

    I deleted the old restore points, no idea when they were created. I don't use them on this system.
