We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview.  We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available.  Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.

If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use.  If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically.  Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:

  • New notifications through Action Center
  • Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
  • Choose how quickly you receive new builds

Please keep letting us know what you think!  We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

    Not quoted...

    I found also this recipe:

    • Click on start and right click on cmd and run the program as administrator.

At the command prompt, type net stop wuauserv, and then press ENTER.

Then type in "net stop bits" (without quotes) and press enter.

Type rmdir /s softwaredistribution\wuredir, and then press ENTER.

Types "net start bits" (without quotes) and press enter.

Types "net start wuauserv" (without quotes) and press enter.

Use the Windows Update Web site again to install updates

    Best regards, Manfred

It is important to note for EVERYONE who is having issues.  Once your update is done and computer has restarted etc, go to Windows Update and run updates. The issues you are all talking about have been addressed and there are at least 2 updates since the Build 9860 was released.  SO, Before you note the problems, make sure you install the updates after the build upgrade.

Instructions followed to every detail. But still my trusted antivirus is having trouble to keep Build 9860 on my laptop, secure. It is actually now warning me: Your Computer Is At Risk! Wondering if this issue is specific to my system alone.

My suggestion would be, don't use a 3rd party Antivirus program.  As with Windows 8 and 8.1, the Tech previews come with Windows defender which has been upgraded to include Antivirus as well as spyware.  Until a final release is done, it is probably that other programs won't function properly.

    Hi Drew,

Thank you for your invaluable advice on the need to avoid naming  third parties in this forum. I have edited that bit in my original comment. I would appreciate if you too could bloat out that third party name appearing in the quoted text inorder to get this fully resolved.

Once again I appreciate your comment.

    Oswell.

I installed with no problems Windows 10 Tech Prview onto my Asus U64e laptop.  But somehow the display setting is set to generic display and the resolution is wrong.  I cannot change this in the Settings screens.  Any ideas how to get around this?  I have not found a new display driver for Windows 10 for Asus U64e laptops ...
