We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview.  We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available.  Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.  

If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use.  If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically.  Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:

  • New notifications through Action Center
  • Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
  • Choose how quickly you receive new builds

    I have the same problem. But in my case I can't download the update. It's downloading the update since yesterday.

    I have been trying to download the new preview build for last 3 days. I am not sure if it is really downloading anything? Is there any way to tell if something is really downloading or the PC Settings is just hanging there waiting for MS Servers to download something?

    Installed today's updates and the laptop with Intel 965 graphics now works fine. Thanks for fixing that so fast.

    it is a huge improvement more like Win 7 which I have been thinking I would have put on my new Lenovo Z4

    I cannot get the start button to show my going to to the lower left sreen corner.  I have to tap the Windows key first

    Issues with 9860 (and post the two updates KB3010668, KB3008956):

    1. MBSA shows three updates to VC++ missing (MS11-025) after running update. Running Update a second time and they appear and install.
    2. Video settings (overscan) not preserved so main monitor not displaying correctly.
    3. Neither Logon Success nor Logon Failure auditing are enabled. Enable auditing and turn on auditing for specific events such as logon and logoff. Be sure to monitor your event log to watch for unauthorized access.
    4. MBSA 2.3 does not recognize version: Computer is running Microsoft Windows Unknown.
