Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860. If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use. If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically. Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860. Everything is garbled and missing half the letters after the update today. Very difficult to use, had to come here to even give you feedback.

Can someone with a Surface Pro 3 please confirm that the update is fine? Someone wrote that geastures were missing for users with touch screens. Someone that cares to elaborate a bit?

I've already got build 9860 :-) If you manually installed build 9860 using the > PC Settings / Preview Builds method, after the new build is installed open the Control Panel and run Windows Update. You may find that KB3008956 has not been installed which is part of the new build. You need to manually install this update. See BOLD as path To Get When done > Check Windows Updates to finish and Restart . As per above Cheers, Drew

Is it possible to update the build if it is running on a virtual drive (.vhd)? I received the following message after clicking install: "you cannot install Windows on a virtual drive." I just did it so, I would say, no problem, @ all. Just swapped Builds on a VM in Hyper-V Cheers, Drew ****

My virtual machine on build 9481 in Chinese (x86) has been downloading the new build for an hour now and has not finished - no progress bar to see if it'll be done soon so I can't judge if it's worth keeping the VM on to allow the update to finish. Overall a very user-unfriendly experience: this surely can't be the only way to get the latest build. Maybe downloading another ISO file would do... anyways, I'm not sure how this is going to turn out. Especially if the missing characters the English users are reporting here will affect the Chinese version - but I'll keep my fingers crossed. P.S. I'm running the Tech Preview on Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.3.16 r95972 on a Windows 7 x64 PC - if that helps with troubleshooting.

I've already got build 9860 :-)
