Have build 9841. No updates to 9860 seen in update query, just three security updates and a Defender definitions update.
You will get an update to Windows 10 Technical Preview soon
We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview. We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available. Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.
If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use. If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically. Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.
More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:
- New notifications through Action Center
- Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
- Choose how quickly you receive new builds
Please keep letting us know what you think! We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

2014-10-22T19:02:26+00:00 After reading all of the issues, I just wanted to chime in that build 9860 is running great here. Installed on bare metal on my ThinkPad W530. Sounds works. No missing letters. Now my computer policy GPOs are applied from Active Directory which is really helpful!
Cheers!
Hopefully it runs as well on the home desktop I'm running it on.

2014-10-22T18:34:10+00:00 The update started automatically once I downloaded it through PC Settings | Update and Recovery | Preview Builds. Using the Update button after the preview was downloaded resulted in an error.
Preview 9860 looks fine. I installed 3 additional updates, one for ASP .NET MVC 5.1. VS2013 runs fine as before. The notifications center is a nice touch.

2014-10-22T18:27:28+00:00 I got a similar message. Look at task manager. Most likely the preview update is in progress.
