We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview.  We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available.  Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.

If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use.  If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically.  Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:

  • New notifications through Action Center
  • Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
  • Choose how quickly you receive new builds

Please keep letting us know what you think!  We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

I'm still running 9841 on my laptop (W520).  I have never received an update notice.  When I attempt to run "PCSettings" from the start menu, I get the error "Element not found."  When I bring up the charm bar, go to settings and select "Change PC Settings," nothing happens.  When I try to run the "Windows Feedback" application from the start menu, nothing happens.  The computer is running like complete garbage right now and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it short of format the drive?

Any help before I do this?

What you're reading as my comment above  wasn't what appeared on the screen. The 6, /, ' and other letters aren't visible.

    I have the same issue.

It does seem to depend on what you're looking at. The Weather page is missing some letters, like W. The send comments page is missing 45-50% of the letters. Doesn't seem to be positional, just the letter is missing.

I was able to write in the comment box of this page and the number 6, the apostrophe, and <> wouldn't type.

What the hell happened? This up date screwed upvevrything up. It was running smooth but now words are all over  the place. Letters ore omitted and spelled wrong, spaces where there shouldn't be any.  This is completely unacceptable.  Its mot me it this **** you handed out. I'm going to uninstall. I quantee my next computer will not be windows based. If this is all the better you can do go back to Kindergarden where you belong. You are wasting my time trying to help you.
