Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860. If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use. If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically. Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860. Is it possible to update the build if it is running on a virtual drive (.vhd)? I received the following message after clicking install: "you cannot install Windows on a virtual drive." I just did it so, I would say, no problem, @ all. Just swapped Builds on a VM in Hyper-V Cheers, Drew ****

My virtual machine on build 9481 in Chinese (x86) has been downloading the new build for an hour now and has not finished - no progress bar to see if it'll be done soon so I can't judge if it's worth keeping the VM on to allow the update to finish. Overall a very user-unfriendly experience: this surely can't be the only way to get the latest build. Maybe downloading another ISO file would do... anyways, I'm not sure how this is going to turn out. Especially if the missing characters the English users are reporting here will affect the Chinese version - but I'll keep my fingers crossed. P.S. I'm running the Tech Preview on Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.3.16 r95972 on a Windows 7 x64 PC - if that helps with troubleshooting.

Hey, When I try update the preview I get an error - Failed to download new preview build - 0x80246018. What needs to happen to fix this?

I have tried to update my PC to the new build 4 times after the reboot it just sits there with blank monitors and no HD activity. After updating an optional AMD Driver it still does the same thing. If I hit the reset switch after it just sits there a while, it tells me it could not update the new build and has restored my previous build. Am I missing something here? Also hope the new build includes my HP Asus Pegatron Motherboard Realtek HD Audio that the first build removed from my dual boot Win 7 \ Win 10...

Yep got it and Disc Optimizer aka Defrag got Busted. Back to Not able to defragging the I mean optimizing the System Reserved Partition windows 8 coming back to haunt us all
