We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview.  We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available.  Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.

If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use.  If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically.  Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:

  • New notifications through Action Center
  • Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
  • Choose how quickly you receive new builds

Please keep letting us know what you think!  We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

I have installed the update with no problems at all in my vm ware player, but it took like two or three hours to complete.

Yes, just upgraded to build 9860 and I also have this issue with the missing on-screen characters. I've only noticed this in the modern apps and IE so far.

It looks like the font being used is not displayed correctly. Haven't tested it on AMD yet though.

    Very weird.

Yes, same here, updated automatically and have missing characters in IE and Windows Feedback App

Based on all these responses, I think very few people are actually concerned about the diverse problems users are reporting in replies to this discussion thread. So as a safety precaution, if anyone has urgent matters with regards to Windows 10, you will probably fare much better posting your own separate thread. That is it.
