We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview. We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available. Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.
If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use. If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically. Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

Just installed another update, and the issue is gone.
Weird.
Rebooting the VM and trying the install again, I'm getting the familiar Windows Update failure error:
0x80240016
as seen below (you can clearly see my virtual machine stopped responding):
Double clicking the icon at the top left corner to perform a hard shutdown was the only way to get rid of the box. I'm afraid this might have caused my VM to be bricked permanently - please help me asap!
Have build 9841. No updates to 9860 seen in update query, just three security updates and a Defender definitions update.
After reading all of the issues, I just wanted to chime in that build 9860 is running great here. Installed on bare metal on my ThinkPad W530. Sounds works. No missing letters. Now my computer policy GPOs are applied from Active Directory which is really helpful!
Cheers!
Hopefully it runs as well on the home desktop I'm running it on.
using it on vmware workstation 10.3 on a win 7 computer and having no problems. i just went ahead and used windows update to get the new build mind you it can take a long time for it to install and update
