Split from this thread.

On April 6, 2024, I started getting this error message. It was working correctly on April 5 with the new undocked format, but not anymore. 😵‍💫

Looks like they changed something that broke it. 🤷‍♂️

After the error, opening snipping tool to take a shot, crashes explorer.exe.

Here is another weird combination, both the older format and the new one open at the same time. 🤣🤣😵‍💫

Can be opened with 2 separate shortcuts. 😉

Waiting for a MS response to my FBH report, I tried to see why I was getting the error below.

I figured out what was wrong on the systems that gave me this weird error.

The new default app for ms-copilot "Copilot in Windows (preview}" was set incorrectly.

I must have caught MS in the middle of their experiments on April 5.

The new App "Copilot in Windows (preview) was not set as default for the url ms-copilot.

Instead it was set for Windows.System.Launcher.

I'm showing below the difference on one machine that works fine and one that failed.

    Image

    Image

This is on a machine that works without the error shows the correct default App for the URL:ms-copilot.

    Image

On the systems that failed the set default button was grayed out. The link was set to Windows.System.Launcher instead of Copilot.

    Image

To fix the problem I had to click on the suggested app and then the Set default button became active and let me set the correct default for

URL:ms-copilot to Copilot in Windows (preview)

Pretty crazy, but I could fix all the failing systems the same way. 😉😎🤷‍♂️

Now they all show the correct default.

The open Copilot on Startup is a completely separate issue and quite inconsistent.

It happens on some machines but not all, depending on what Build was in the Box before the update to 26100 Canary.

There used to be a personalization option for that behavior, but now it disappeared without any logical explanation.

    Must be A.I. logic. 😂😂🤷‍♂️

Well, good to know it is ok. Thanks for the 'update', letting me know it works for you, now. After checking (& was ok, for me) didn't know what I could do or say.

I sure do hope this does not fly in 24H2 or something, that this (no choice) "On Startup" with Copilot does not ever end up in 11 GA 😖

    Cheers,

Your link works today, but yesterday it was getting just to a Bing page with no direct link to the FBH. 🤷‍♂️
