Commercial use of images generated using Copilot, Bing AI and "Image Creator from Designer"

As noted in other questions on this topic, the terms of use for Microsoft services capable of AI image generation appear to have changed in late 2023/early 2024 from a clear "non-commercial use only" policy to an ambiguous "Microsoft does not claim ownership of creations" one, with no mention of how those creations can be legally used.

Can an advisor please clarify the current (end of Jan 2024) restrictions on use of AI-generated images from Microsoft services such as Copilot, Bing AI and "Image Creator from Designer", as well as any requirements for attribution/watermarks to enable unrestricted commercial use?

    You cannot copyright artwork created by a machine. It doesn't matter how many times you change your prompt. If you want to add a watermark, add, 'Created by Bing Image Creator powered by Dall-E'.

    No one owns the images, and they might be created by Bing for someone else, so you cannot stop someone else from using the same image. This has been tested in court here: https://www.wired.com/story/ai-art-copyright-matthew-allen/

    However, by using AI generated images, you may be breaching someone else's copyright because the machines are trained using other people's artwork and there are currently lawsuits going through the courts over artwork being replicated by AI machines without the permission of the copyright owners. This is why Microsoft doesn't claim copyright ownership either. You're on your own defending your use of it. At your own risk.

    How do you add a watermark. I have only just come across Microsoft AI Image Creator and am interested to know if these generated images are royalty free and can be used commercially on websites, PowerPoint presentations etc?

    Clarification would be great on this.

    Good morning, I saw a "review" that Microsoft CoPilot did on a novel. Is it permissable to use that review on a website as long as I attribute the review from CoPilot? Thanks for any thoughts on this!

    The tool is not for commercial use. And "Microsoft does not claim ownership...", They are talking about the content you upload to the tool. so in logical summary, it is not commercial use for the output result. I think.
