Using my Surface Headphones on my Windows 10 PC is becoming very difficult. Throughout the day Cortana is randomly summoned during my normal conversations. This is problematic as I record online training and often have to start over when my PC suddenly thinks i want to ask Cortana a question.

Please, how can i turn off the Surface Headphones "hey Cortana" feature? If this is not possible, these headphones are going back.

Thanks!

    Hi patrickphillipsdotnet,

I'm sorry to hear about this, it's none of our intention for this to happen and definitely this is not the experience we want for you. Regarding the issue on how to disable Cortana. We thanks for the feedback you have provided. Once we have the solution for this we will circle you back

For the meantime, regarding with disabling Cortana on your headphone, you can directly connect it to Bluetooth so that the Cortana Features will not become as its function. However, all of the Cortana command or features will be disabled as well. To set up your headphone directly to Bluetooth, please follow this steps. Or you may check under Cortana to manage your Cortana feature.

You can review and control exactly what personal information Cortana can access by clicking into the search box and selecting Settings  on the left pane. You can also search "Cortana settings" in the search box on the taskbar, and select Cortana & Search settings from the results.

    First pair your headphones:

    1. Press and release the power button quickly to turn on your headphones—they'll be pairing mode the first time you turn them on.

    Note

If you've previously paired your headphones with another device, press and hold the power button to put them into pairing mode. You'll hear a message saying they're in pairing mode, and the LED light will flash white. 2. Select Start  > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other devices> Bluetooth. 3. Select Surface Headphones and then select Done.

    Thank you,

    Christopher

Whenever I adjust my headphones cortana is summoned and asks for permission so that she can help me. This is extremely annoying and negatively impactful to getting work done and should be a top issue for resolving.

Just to be clear, the "hey Cortana" feature is running even when using the microphone (i.e. on call or recording)?

That makes them virtually useless if the one you are calling is called Cortana...

I love many things about my Surface headphones. They sound great, the noise cancelling is wonderful, I can wear them all day long, and they even look pretty cool.

I work remotely and am on calls very, very frequently. I never say "okay Cortana" during my day. In have Cortana disabled on my computer.

However, my headphones pick up other things that I say and things that other people around me say as the queue phrase. This, in turn, interrupts my calls with the people who I am speaking with.

A huge part of my job is instilling confidence in the people with whom I am speaking. Having calls interrupted by what is easily perceived to be my technical incompetence does not instill confidence.

I really need a way to disable Cortana on my Surface headphones or I will seek to return them.

I feel very strongly that if the Cortana feature does not work flawlessly that it should not be something that cannot be turned off.

Hi Chadcgpov, as you have found, there is not a way to disable "Hey Cortana" with Surface Headphones on Windows 10.  The headphones are listening for that phrase.  Thanks for the feedback you have provided.  It has been provided to the correct individuals here at Microsoft.  While we cannot commit to providing this feature, we appreciate you sharing your feedback with us.
