how to change a password on a child account just created. it says there is notr enough info provided for me to change

I created a child account, which I can see on my family accounts, but when trying to link to my child's Microsoft account, it instead links mine. I have tried signing in under my child's account, but it does not accept the password. I have tried changing the password, but it says I'm not providing enough information to change.
