Azure Portal – Error/ClientTimeout in Edge (Works in Guest, Safari, Chrome)

2025-07-05T03:22:42.6433333+00:00

I’ve been unable to access portal.azure.com in Microsoft Edge for a couple of months. I always get the Error/ClientTimeout screen (screenshot attached).

System: MacOS Sequoia Version 15.5 (24F74)

Edge: Version 138.0.3351.65 (Official build) (arm64)

What I’ve tried so far:

Ran all available diagnostics (all pass, no issues detected)

Cleared cache and cookies

Reinstalled Edge

Tried different networks

Some observations:

  • If I open Edge in a Guest Profile, the portal loads fine

When logged in with my Microsoft Work Account, the error comes back

No issues accessing Azure Portal using Safari or Chrome

Anyone seen this before? What could be sticking in my Edge profile or account session that causes this? I’m not getting any useful info from the error screen or diagnostics.

Hello

welcome to Q&A

According to your description of the ‘Error/ClientTimeout’ problem (only in the main Edge profile, and normal in guest mode or other browsers), combined with the characteristics of the Azure portal and the Edge profile mechanism, some of the methods to try the following

Method 1: Disable all extensions

     1. visit edge://extensions → disable all extensions (especially enterprise security plug-ins such as Zscaler, Norton, etc.)

     2. Restart Edge and test the Azure portal → if normal, then enable extensions one by one to locate the source of conflict.

Method 2: Force Traceless Mode Test

1.Open Traceless Window by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N in Edge → Log in to your working account to access the Azure portal

     2. If it works → Prove that it is a caching or extension issue; if it still fails → You need to check the account policy.

Method 3: Clear site-specific data

     1. go to edge://settings/clearBrowserData → select the time range ‘All time’

     2. Tick Cookies and other site data, cached images and files.

     3. Manually type portal.azure.com in the ‘Site’ box → Click ‘Clear Now’.

Reset Browser Experimental Flags

Visit edge://flags → Search for the following flags and set them to Disabled:

   #edge-enable-immersive-auth, #enable-webrtc-hide-local-ips

Restart the browser to test.

Thank you for your patience and reading.

Best regards.

We encountered the same issue described here.

After disabling the extensions, everything worked as expected.

Thank you for sharing such a helpful solution.

It worked disabling extensions. It was Dashlanes extension. For some reason I had two installed, onef from Chrome store (the one with errors in the console in my original screenshot).. Thanks.
