Surface laptop 3 fans running loud when laptop is plugged in

Hello. I have been having this problem with my Surface laptop 3 where when I play a light game (like Minecraft) with the laptop plugged in the fans become extremely loud. However when the laptop is not plugged in the fans don't get even close to being as loud... Can someone help me solve this problem?

Hi 8gigLiam,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Surface Community. We thank you for taking advantage on our new Surface Laptop 3. Definitely this is not the experience that we want you to have. We do have some few questions to have this isolated and some suggestions could lead us to a resolution.

When your on Battery, you have mentioned that you the fan is not that loud, But if you check on the battery slider are you on "Best Performance" while your in game?

You can adjust how you want your CPU to perform, by selecting the battery icon on the task bar and adjusting the power mode. Setting the power mode to Recommended throttles the CPU and helps keep it running cooler with less need of assisted cooling. While a setting of Better performance or Best performance will allow the device to run more quickly, it will also allow the fan to come on more often to keep the CPU cool and performing it's best.

Is this the 15" or the 13.5" Surface Laptop 3 for the Graphics"

If this is the 13.5" what's the processor?

We have :

Quad-core 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1035G7 Processor

Quad-core 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1065G7 Processor

You can check this by going to Task Bar search box and Type there "dxdiag".

    No, mine just came on and kept running.

    Once I made the adjustments in the battery level from 'best performance' to the recommended 'best battery' level the fan stopped coming on (unless they are actually needed).

    Left click on the battery to make this adjustment.

    I reported this issue to Microsoft via phone. So, they gave me a new charger. However, neither did that solve the issue. The fans are very loud regardless if the laptop is on performance or recommended mode. Moreover, when the laptop is in performance mode the charge become extremely hot.

    This is just one of my problems with the Surface Laptop 3. I have problems with the screen (calibration and auto brightness) and while turning on of the laptop after I close the lid.

    Microsoft did offer me to replace the laptop, so I’ll probably do just that now that I’ve see that the new charger didn’t solve the issue. However, the problem with changing the laptop is that you have to send your laptop first to Microsoft, after they receive it they will send you a new one. So your without a laptop for 7 to 15 days, and that’s a big problem for me since I use my laptop extensively for work.

    Same issue here Nikola - I use it for work and cannot afford a 7 to 10 day wait period. 

    I too noticed the same issue with Screen brightness going up and down randomly, Laptop behaves best on its own (no dock, no extra screens or charging) 

    By this time the laptop has probably cooked my internals as I don't get more than 3 to 4 hours on this thing now, even with very lite use.

    I'm also having the same issue. However, the fan don't just stay on: they keep doing short bursts every few seconds, like they throttle between full speed and normal every 5 seconds. Is this what happens to you all as well or it's just my unit?
