Surface laptop 3 fans running loud when laptop is plugged in

Hello. I have been having this problem with my Surface laptop 3 where when I play a light game (like Minecraft) with the laptop plugged in the fans become extremely loud. However when the laptop is not plugged in the fans don't get even close to being as loud... Can someone help me solve this problem?

Hi 8gigLiam,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Surface Community. We thank you for taking advantage on our new Surface Laptop 3. Definitely this is not the experience that we want you to have. We do have some few questions to have this isolated and some suggestions could lead us to a resolution.

When your on Battery, you have mentioned that you the fan is not that loud, But if you check on the battery slider are you on "Best Performance" while your in game?

You can adjust how you want your CPU to perform, by selecting the battery icon on the task bar and adjusting the power mode. Setting the power mode to Recommended throttles the CPU and helps keep it running cooler with less need of assisted cooling. While a setting of Better performance or Best performance will allow the device to run more quickly, it will also allow the fan to come on more often to keep the CPU cool and performing it's best.

Is this the 15" or the 13.5" Surface Laptop 3 for the Graphics"

If this is the 13.5" what's the processor?

We have :

Quad-core 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1035G7 Processor

Quad-core 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1065G7 Processor

You can check this by going to Task Bar search box and Type there "dxdiag".

    I just recently found out that the charging block (65W) that came with the SL3 makes a cracking noise (the block only) when connected to the wall or power distributer. It does charge still and gets warm as usual, although I consider that a safety hazard. Either way, if there is an issue(s) with the charging unit the device comes with, then there may be a recall pretty soon.

    If you are at full battery, they may have implemented a shut-off switch (software) to prevent from continuous charging on full battery as it is suggested to be bad for the batteries; but if that is not the case, either the cord, the block, the connector, or the laptop port could be the issue. 

    Have you tried charging through the USB-C port? Does that work? If it does without the same disruptions, then your battery of the laptop is not the issue.

    Not had a problem, but I've only had my computer 3 months. I tend to alternate between the Surface power supply and a USB C supply I also use (plugged into a USB C docking unit). I also don't unplug it much as it stays on the desk most of the time. Sorry I can't help.

    My fan issue has been resolved .. but is anyone having trouble with the charge cord?

    Mine only works for a short time once I plug and unplug a few times into the pc.  Most of the time when I plug it in nothing happens.

    Yes..the connection to the wall is solid

    Yes..the connection to the pc's transformer box is solid

    My daughter has a Surface Laptop 2 and had this same issue about 1 yr after purchase.  We had to replace the cord.

    Mine is only about 6 months old.

    It's still happening to me, very annoying because the fan speed goes up and down in cycles instead of just keeping a steady speed.
