Well, with the Pro 3, it will still have the same driver and will work perfect - except that the USB port is underpowered on the Pro 3 as compared to earlier model Surface tablets.
Why Microsoft cut down on the power output of the USB 3.0 port is unknown. I have an Asus DVD writer that works perfect "as is" with my RT and an Asus T100 but when I plug it in to the Pro 3, I get a power surge message on the taskbar (meaning not enough
power) and you will hear the drive kick on/off in a repeated fashion.
I have a USB extension cable that I plugged into the "Y" cable of the DVD drive to provide additional power the and drive works perfect - no message.
So, the drives will work, just not enough power through the USB port.
