Surface Pro 4 Screen Shaking/Shuddering up and down while Idle

I have the same issue.  I strongly suspect overheating. 

It's been intermittent for me and usually stops when I interact with it.  However, today after a lot of video processing over a couple hours, it's shaking into a constant blur and won't stop at all.  When I stop the video process for a while (i.e., minimize the app), it will stop.  It will stop more quickly if I place my hands on the top/back of it, which feels notably hot, but not burn you hot (i.e., probably 60C, but I don't have a temperature monitor for the CPU, nor do I know that it's CPU temperature necessarily).  Touching it will conduct heat away faster than ambient air, so I believe I'm effectively cooling it faster by holding the back of it.  I started blowing on the back as well, it would cool and then heat up, stop shaking and then start again, repeat until it finally cooled. 

I've repeated this about 4 times consistently by maximizing and minimizing a video application.  Not terribly scientific, but I think it's an overheating issue with one of the components.  Could be video processor, cpu, memory, or the display itself.  I don't know, but I'd bet it's more related to video/gfx processing or the display since I minimized rather than closed the video application.  So if the memory and cpu usage remained about the same, and the shaking would start and stop based on video/gfx processing, that provides a pointer.

Anyway, try some form of external cooling

I have the same issue, does any one have fixed it.

I have to always keep Task Manager running so that screen will stop the shaking.

In my case if any application is runing and it keeps updating the screen then shaking stops, but if tab is left idle for 3 seconds shaking starts.

its becoming a nightmare.

I've been following several threads on this and no one has resolved the issue with an update, hard reboot, or OS reset.  I've concluded that this is most likely a hardware issue related to a design flaw.  Since other folks have plugged in separate monitors without the issue, it shouldn't be related to the output from the GPU.  So that likely rules out heat related failures in the RAM, CPU, and GPU themselves.  My bet is that when a component related to video processing heats up, probably the integrated GPU, it also heats up some nearby component related to the Display or Touch I/O that causes shaking / jittering display errors.  

It's a just a guess, but a good one and I find it hard to believe MS engineers haven't figured it out after 2 years and so many people reporting the issue.  Which means they most likely know what the problem is, but aren't sharing it.  If that's the case then really actually fixing the problem must be too costly (e.g., refunds, recalls, redesigns) for them to own up so that we're all on our own -- stellar customer service.  I'm sure the shareholders are tickled.

Providing this is all true, thank you for the $2,000 lemon and poor service Microsoft.  At least my Surface Pen only craps out once or twice per day and my Touch Cover keyboard only needs to be reconnected 3-10 times after scrubbing the contacts to work.  I returned a Surface Pro 3 because of a dozen issues like these, but thought for sure MS had it right with the 4th iteration.  I left you 10 years ago and am sorry I gave you another shot.

It used to be fixed by simply having constant mouse/keyboard input, or putting a seconds timer in your taskbar so your display would never go into the (very constant) flickering.

But now it consistently happens regardless of updates. It's been gone for several weeks after some updates, and immediatly returned upon other updates. But there has been no fix, and rolling back hasn't fixed anything.

My keyboard cover also randomly loses contact and my surface freezes up for a bit while it tries to help me by going into tablet mode and back. Power management for USB devices is impossible so I'm having to unplug and plug devices such as audio/midi interfaces after every hard boot.

I have never had such a terrible experience with a windows device, and I'm done with them.

I have got same problems for a few months already and searched solutions on Internet without any luck of success.

It keeps flickering and once it is heated up, it turns into shaking heavily but the extended screen is perfectly fine. I need to fold it up (or just put it into sleep mode), go for a coffee for about 10 minutes, come back to work and another 20-30 minutes later, same thing happens again.

Is it designed to remind people not to sit too long??????

Please release an update for this costly gadget.
