April 19 Surface Book Update failure - Error 0x800f0203

While applying today's updates, I received a Blue screen. After it restarted, it applied updates before continuing into Windows startup.

Went into Windows Update and clicked on Install for the remaining ones that were yet to be applied. Then I get this error:

* Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic - Error - 0x800f0203

I clicked Retry, it says no updates available.

Click check for updates and again:

* Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic - Error - 0x800f0203

Rebooted, still offering this driver and failing with same error.

this workaround was posted on reddit (and fixed the issue for me!):

  • Open the setupapi.dev.log log file from c:\windows\inf.
  • Find the error "Failed to install device instance".
  • Above this error it will say which inf file caused the issue. In my case oem90.inf
  • Run "pnputil -d oem90.inf" from an elevated command prompt
  • Re-run windows update and install

    I have the standard current Windows 10 release on my SP4 and I have the same problem... BSOD followed by several failed updates... so it's not just Insider preview builds.

    I have this same issue.  Blue screened, with a message about a Camera, and then rebooted, updated, and now cannot update the Intel Corp driver mentioned by everyone else above.

    Come on MS/Intel - the surface book is a static device with only a few different configurations, how can there be so many failures!?!

    Is this update issue being seen on the standard current Windows 10 release, or just on Insider preview builds?
