April 19 Surface Book Update failure - Error 0x800f0203

While applying today's updates, I received a Blue screen. After it restarted, it applied updates before continuing into Windows startup.

Went into Windows Update and clicked on Install for the remaining ones that were yet to be applied. Then I get this error:

* Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic - Error - 0x800f0203

I clicked Retry, it says no updates available.

Click check for updates and again:

* Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic - Error - 0x800f0203

Rebooted, still offering this driver and failing with same error.

this workaround was posted on reddit (and fixed the issue for me!):

  • Open the setupapi.dev.log log file from c:\windows\inf.
  • Find the error "Failed to install device instance".
  • Above this error it will say which inf file caused the issue. In my case oem90.inf
  • Run "pnputil -d oem90.inf" from an elevated command prompt
  • Re-run windows update and install

    The same thing is happening to me. I did a number of restarts as well.

    Hi,

    This is what my log file shows - but it doesn't want to delete skccontroller.inf - it can't find the file.  This is on a Surface Pro 4 i5, running Insider Build 14316.  It does this every time I try to retry the update.

    My Windows Hello Camera doesn't work anymore! I get a Bluescreen during the Update process. The reddit fix worked fine! What can i do?

    Thanks bbernd, this solved the problem on my SP4 i7.

    In my case it was oem118.inf.

    After successful update driver for "Intel(R) Control Logic" now shows

    Date: 28.02.2016

    Version: 30.10586.7035.1976
