April 19 Surface Book Update failure - Error 0x800f0203

While applying today's updates, I received a Blue screen. After it restarted, it applied updates before continuing into Windows startup.

Went into Windows Update and clicked on Install for the remaining ones that were yet to be applied. Then I get this error:

* Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic - Error - 0x800f0203

I clicked Retry, it says no updates available.

Click check for updates and again:

* Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Control Logic - Error - 0x800f0203

Rebooted, still offering this driver and failing with same error.

this workaround was posted on reddit (and fixed the issue for me!):

  • Open the setupapi.dev.log log file from c:\windows\inf.
  • Find the error "Failed to install device instance".
  • Above this error it will say which inf file caused the issue. In my case oem90.inf
  • Run "pnputil -d oem90.inf" from an elevated command prompt
  • Re-run windows update and install

    It's normal to have 3 instances of the Control Logic driver so I would not remove them.  Did you by any chance do a shutdown or a restart?  Make sure that you are doing a restart.

    Also, what version of the Control Logic driver do you have on your Surface? 

    Forgot to post the driver version:

    All 3 of them in Device Manager are 30.1054.6640.152 (SkcController.sys)

    Also, what version of the Control Logic driver do you have on your Surface?

    I had the same experience. while installing the new camera updates, it BSOD'd with an error stating a problem with [someletterhere]camera64.sys.

    Then after a reboot and firmware update, I rechecked for updates and it installed several more (Windows Hello and a few more). The last update is the Intel Control Flow driver, which keeps failing. Here's a screenshot of the previous successful updates:

    I checked DeviceManager and see that there were three instances of the driver. I tried updating it directly form there but also get an error.

    I dare not attempt to remove two of the instances because I don't know exactly what they do or if all three are needed.

    If anyone has successfully removed two of them and then it updated the 3rd, please let me know.
