After installing system updates on 02/17/16 for Windows 10, the Surface Detach icon in the taskbar is grayed out and when I mouse over it, it says "Surface Detach: Detached" when it's actually attached and connected to the keyboard. Keyboard works fine but when I try to detach, I have to hold the keyboard detach button for over 10 seconds before the light turns green and I hear the detach sound.
Also, since this started happening, after detaching, the screen no longer rotates in Tablet Mode. Tried locking and unlocking Autorotation and nothing will rotate the screen anymore.
Not sure if these two problems are related.

FYI, your problems can likely be resolved by disabling fast startup. We are still waiting on an update from MS.

UPDATE:
Well, I ended up doing a reset. Still errors and issues. Did another reset wiping the drive clean and the install locked up on me. Frustrated, I took the machine back and got another one. No hassle at all. In fact, the manager was quite awesome about the whole thing and gave me a new one from the latest shipment that already had all the updates. He told me if ANYTHING goes wrong, give him a call. Got home, no errors and everything was working perfectly! Ran a SFC just in case and there were no errors!
HOWEVER, I worked on it this morning, with no issues, until I connected it to the dock and, once again, the screen shows detached. Ran through the SFC and came up with the same damn 0x800f081ferror! I guess we'll be getting this error every time there is a windows update until we get an update to update the updates...
How would I do that? I always shut my computer down, I hardly ever use sleep unless I know I'm coming back to use it sooner rather than later. I do that because it gets super hot in my laptop bag in sleep mode.
Exactly the same issue I am having. It usually has to be in Sleep >3-4 hours before it crashes. It logs a Critical Error when it happens. You will see from my and others posts that this is predictable and consistently reproducible. It puzzles me that MS hasn't been able to fix it yet because a reproducible problem is usually easier to troubleshoot than a random event.
I have had fast startup disabled all along and that doesn't help. If I disable hibernation (i.e. go back to using sleep), then the camera and detach button problems go away, but if it sleeps for some lengthy period of time (say overnight), the SB crashes when it wakes up.
