Surface Detach Icon says Detached when it's not

After installing system updates on 02/17/16 for Windows 10, the Surface Detach icon in the taskbar is grayed out and when I mouse over it, it says "Surface Detach: Detached" when it's actually attached and connected to the keyboard. Keyboard works fine but when I try to detach, I have to hold the keyboard detach button for over 10 seconds before the light turns green and I hear the detach sound. 

Also, since this started happening, after detaching, the screen no longer rotates in Tablet Mode. Tried locking and unlocking Autorotation and nothing will rotate the screen anymore.

Not sure if these two problems are related.

    Everything seemed perfect through a few restarts, but after a complete power cycle, recharge, and the whole bit, I am back to the Surface Detach: Detached message on startup.

    Any other ideas?

    After the 02/17 update I was experiencing multiple issues (including SB crashing while in Sleep mode; see other threads on that subject). Last two days I was having detachment (icon in the notification area would say detached while the tablet was attached) and auto-rotate (while auto-rotate setting was on, detached tablet screen would not auto-rotate) problems.

    I downloaded the SurfaceBook_Win10_160400_2.msi file from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49497, installed it (right click the file and select install) and it looks like it solved the two problems. Thanks ndpendnc for the solution.

    This appears to have done the trick for me as well.

    Is it safe to remove the "SurfacePlatformInstaller" folder that is created in the Program Files folder after running the executable?

    I am having these same issues.  They don't seem to be resolved even after the power button + volume button hold reboots.
