After installing system updates on 02/17/16 for Windows 10, the Surface Detach icon in the taskbar is grayed out and when I mouse over it, it says "Surface Detach: Detached" when it's actually attached and connected to the keyboard. Keyboard works fine but when I try to detach, I have to hold the keyboard detach button for over 10 seconds before the light turns green and I hear the detach sound.
Also, since this started happening, after detaching, the screen no longer rotates in Tablet Mode. Tried locking and unlocking Autorotation and nothing will rotate the screen anymore.
Not sure if these two problems are related.

FYI, your problems can likely be resolved by disabling fast startup. We are still waiting on an update from MS.

For me, disabling Fast Startup has also apparently fixed the "Detached" and "Autorotate" issues, as well as the non-starting Windows Hello camera.
It's only been one day for me with this workaround, but let's hope it remedies most of the outstanding annoyances.
Ok so I've been moving around since my last post and had the surface on dock, off dock and been through a few shutdowns and starts from sleep. Since the change to power management to disable fast startup I have not seen the poor behavior.
Tried this solution, but the problem presents itself again after a shutdown and cold start. The problem can be made to go away after a few restarts, but there is definitely a problem with the shutdown sequence and cold boot. As we know Win10 doesn't really do a full true shutdown due to the fast startup function. I'm disabling the fast startup function in power options and hopefully that fixes the problem. I have to wonder if that will correct some of the other weirdness with the dock also.
Interestingly, the surface dock, which obviously requires that the keyboard is attached, functions just fine even with the surface detached icon appearing. No matter how much I may like the SB there is no question it may have had the poorest testing and QC of any computing device I've used in the last 10 years.
Everything seemed perfect through a few restarts, but after a complete power cycle, recharge, and the whole bit, I am back to the Surface Detach: Detached message on startup.
Any other ideas?
